A young creative couple approached us to design a weekend hideaway where time could slow down. Their dream was a compact yet soulful space — somewhere to write, cook, read, and reset.

Challenge

  • The site had a small footprint, so vertical and horizontal space had to be used wisely.
  • Natural light was limited due to dense tree cover.
  • The structure needed to feel cozy in winter but breathable in summer.

Solution

We worked with volume. The interior featured lofted ceilings with exposed beams to draw the eye upward. Light wood planks were used on both floor and ceiling to amplify brightness. Integrated furniture reduced clutter, while operable skylights allowed fresh air and soft sun to pour in. Every decision respected the cabin’s rhythm with the forest around it.

"Serra has an extraordinary eye for detail and a rare ability to create calm through structure. Our home feels like a quiet reflection of who we are."
