A writer and photographer couple wanted to escape the distractions of urban life and reconnect with nature. Their vision was a home wrapped in quiet — one that reflects the stark beauty of the Norwegian coastline without feeling cold or austere.

Challenge

  • The site was exposed to harsh coastal weather and had limited direct sunlight for much of the year.
  • The clients wanted the space to feel open, but also cocooned and warm.
  • Maximising views while ensuring privacy from nearby walking trails was critical.

Solution

We minimised visual clutter, worked exclusively with a neutral palette, and integrated panoramic glazing to bring in ocean light. Every element — from the raw oak cabinetry to linen-covered walls — was chosen to absorb silence and reflect stillness.

We used deep window sills, textured plaster, and soft timber to add warmth to the cool Nordic palette. The layout was kept minimal but layered with subtle depth through material contrast. Large, strategically placed windows captured the northern light, while custom wooden shutters offered privacy without visual heaviness. The result: a home that listens as much as it speaks.

"Serra has an extraordinary eye for detail and a rare ability to create calm through structure. Our home feels like a quiet reflection of who we are."
